------ ---Skiing La Tania 1

Skiing La Tania 1 - 5-12 March
with Raffa & Madeline

5th March

The living area at Chalet Nicole.Everyone arrived fine on various different flights from the UK and Ireland to Geneva - apart from the Liverpool flight which was held up by snow on the runway (the Liverpool runway, that is).

At Geneva there were Family Friendly Skiing staff waiting to drive the group to Chalet Nicole in La Tania - our favourite, and now yearly rebooked chalet.

Some hired skis from FFSkiing, others from a shop in 1850m.

A huge amount of snow had fallen the previous week, and it was still snowing!

Dinner at Chalet Nicole.

We spent the afternoon hiring skis and boots where necessary, settling in, and generally recovering from our early start.

Watching Raffas ski DVD later in the evening.

That evening we were served our first delicous meal by the chalet staff - Mark and Maria. Later we were treated to Raffa's Skiing DVD.

6th March

Sunrise on the mountains opposite. It had snowed some more during the night, so it was surprise to wake to a sunny morning with lots of snow everywhere.

View down the valley from the chalet just before sunrise.

Putting on skis outside the chalet.

Chalet Nicole has a great ski in/ski our position very near the bottom of the red run down into La Tania, just above the main bubble lift to the Courchevel slopes.

Skiing on Folyeres.

Those of us who weren't at ski school started the day on a blue run (Folyeres) and we were virtually the first people to ski down this run through snow-laden trees. The views were stunning.

On Folyeres surrounded by trees laden with snow.

Later on during the day the clouds drew in and it got incredibly cold on the chair lifts at Praelong.

Cold on the chair lift.

Skiing in the cold.

Cake back at the chalet.

It was good to get back to the warm chalet for homemade cakes and tea or coffee!

7th March

Morning view from the chalet after more snow. The snow continued to fall during the night but, once again, we woke to a sunny start - with even more snow to wade through!

Lift with the chalet van for ski school or ski lessons.

Some of the group had ski school or private lessons booked for this morning, and the chalet minibus drove them to 1850m for a 9.15 start.

Group photos in the sun.

The weather was sunny but cold, and everyone was well wrapped.

Mini group phtoto in the sun.

Group photo at the top of the Le Foret lift.

Another group photo at the top of Foret and then lots more skiing with hardly anyone else - in perfect powder snow.

Skiing down with hardly anyone else on the slopes.

Improving technique with Ingrid.

Raffa took photos of a private lesson with Ingrid shared with other women in the group.

Clouds start to come in again.

Bottom of the Signal chair lift.

Views from the Signal chair.

We had booked a lunch table for everyone at the Casserole Restaurant below the Signal lift.

Lunch at the Casserole.

At the Casserole Restaurant.

In the afternoon the cloud steadily returned. Back at the chalet we relaxed into the evening.

8th March

The view this morning from the chalet.Snow fell all day today but most of us went skiing until lunch time at Chenus.

On the way up in the telecabine.

On the slopes in the snow.

Going up on the chair lift past snow covered trees.

Testing the goggles at tea time!

Some of us had trouble with steamed-up goggles so we spent teatime trying to decide which goggles were 'steam-free'!

Testing goggles!

Dinner at Chalet Nicole.

That night we had a fantastic curry with lots of choice for both meat and non-meat eaters.

9th March

Ann skiing with Barbaras ski boots.Drama today because Barbara had taken the wrong ski-boots to ski-school - so Ann and myself had to ski over with the right ones.

Ann skiing down a very snowy Combe Saulire.

Ann skiing on Combe Saulire.

Later on Ann was perfecting her carving and steep slope skiing down the unpisted red run 'Combe Saulire'.

On the red run Creux.

A small group then tackled Creux, another red run. Most of the black runs were closed because of avalanche risk after so much recent snow.

Sunning on the chair lift.

For lunch we met at Casserole again (here's Angela and Ann enjoying the sunshine on the chair lift at Prameruel on the way to Casserole).

Sun at the Casserole Restaurant on the slopes.

Soaking up the sun at Casserole.

After lunch it got cloudy again - definitely the pattern at the moment.

Chalet Nicole with mounds of snow around it.

Today was the chalet staff's day off. In the evening, some of us ate out at La Ferme in La Tania to experience local specialities, while others stayed in for some home cooking with Raffa (delicious Italian pasta and salad).

10th March

Lesson with Ingrid in the morning.Yet more snow fell today and some of us had a private lesson in the deep snow.

Group photo including Ingrid.

Most of us still met up at Chenus for lunch, although it was almost blowing a blizzard outside.

In the late afternoon Jan and Madeline went for a walk into La Tania and then made a snowman outside the Chalet.

Snowman outside the chalet.

Getting the log fire going for us this evening.

We lit the log stove in the evening - perfect after such a snowy day.

Mark and Maria cooking dinner.

Mark and Maria cooked us another superb meal - they have really done us proud and nothing's been too much trouble.

11th March

At the top of Jockeys.Last day today and it was still snowing!! We were the first people down Bouc Blanc - the unpisted red run just outside our Chalet.

Skiing down Jockeys.

Skiing down Jockeys.

Conditions were perfect and we thought we'd try the Black run 'Jockeys'. The snow was really deep here but good powder, and we had a few soft landings!

Chatting at dinner.

It was a great last day with superb snow conditions even through the light was flat.

Overwhelmed by the meal!

The following morning it was time for hugs goodbye and drive back to Geneva in the minibus. Sadly it was time to go home.

Taking our luggage to the minibus.

Time to go home!

Women's Feedback

"It was fun…snow was fantastic, food was variable but mostly fine and choice for breakfast and amount of fruit available was excellent".

"As last year, I had a fantastic time (missed Diana!). Madeline was super as was Raffa. Great company, great skiing and lots of fun".

"Excellent!"

"This is my second year skiing in La Tania with WW and it won't be my last. My hopes of skiing with a group, amongst which there were women with similar skiing abilities, were met entirely. The company was excellent, the guides were both helpful, accommodating and relaxing to ski with, the group was friendly and great fun. Only problem was the weather!!"
