------ ---Intermediate Peak District

Intermediate Peak District 10-14 Feb
with Yvonne

10th Feb

Losehill Hall dining room - not from this holiday.Huge snowfalls earlier in the week had complicated some women's journeys, but everyone fine, some by train with a courtesy taxi from Hope station to Losehill Hall.

We started to get to know each other, then settled down to a very enjoyable meal in Losehill's attractive dining room - retiring later to the comfort of the lounge and open fire.

11th Feb

Patches of snow on the way to Edale. The bus times didn't suit us today so we walked over to Edale for a change (we usually do it the other way around).

Starting up Lose Hill.

It was showery and cold to start as we climbed Lose Hill, but then it came out sunny for great views across to Kinder.

Quite deep snow on the top of Lose Hill.

Most of the snow was now melting rapidly, but there still patches on the hills to pick out the features, and we encountered quite a lot on top of Lose Hill itself.

At Hollins Cross. On the way to Upper Booth.

Our route took us over Lose Hill to Hollins Cross, then across the fields to Upper Booth.

Sun comes out on the Pennine Way to Edale.

From here we followed the Pennine Way down into Edale, arriving in time for coffee or hot chocolate in front of the open fire at the Nags Head - mmmm!

Enjoying the view back to Lose Hill from the Pennine Way.
Nags Head in Edale.Nearly in Edale.

Later we took the spectacular bus ride back over Mam Nick via all the caverns to Castleton. In the evening we ate yet more fabulous puddings at Losehill Hall!

12th Feb

On Shatton Moor.Today we took the bus to Bradwell, then walked up the slippery slope to Shatton Moor.

On Overshaw Moor.

From here we walked over Ollershaw Moor with good views across to Hathersage and Stanage Edge, then down to the River Derwent, where we saw goosanders on the river.

Descending into the Derwent Valley.

There was a bit of a fiasco with buses in Hope village (just missed one, but then flagged down another as we'd started to walk home.........) but nice not to have to walk all the way back.

13th Feb

Today we had a non-bus day. We walked around the base of Losehill to the gentle climb up from Edale End to Hope Cross. (Morning photos didn't come out unfortunately).

360 degree views.

The sun came out for the fab view back down the Edale valley.

Walking up Win Hill.

The lovely ascending stride out along the Win Hill ridge is always delightful.

Taking a break - the snow is now melting.

The rocky top of Win Hill gives good 360-degree views down to the Derwent Dams and Snake Pass.

Rocky Win Hill top.

Dropping down to Hope.

A steep drop down to Hope, choice of tea shops then back through the fields to the Hall and our last sumptuous dinner.

14th Feb

Leaving Hope Valley.A small party for our last day, as some needed to go home early and others were tempted by a trip to the Castleton caverns.

Hollins Cross.

It was good to finish off the Great Ridge by going up to Hollins Cross along to Mam Tor, across Windy Knoll (aptly named) and past the old mine working with fascinating names.

On Mam Tor.
Looking back to Mam Tor and the Great Ridge.

Dropping down into Cave Dale.

Walking down Cave Dale.Out into the sunshine in Cave Dale.

We walked down Cave Dale past Peveril Castle into the village for last minute shopping and a cup of tea.

Cave Dale.

Back at the Hall we changed into dry clothes, said our goodbyes to each other, and set off on our journeys home.

Last look back at Mam Tor from Losehill Hall grounds.

A last look back at Mam Tor from Losehill Hall grounds showed it in splendid sunshine. Typical!

Women's Feedback

"Smashing holiday, great group of women, lots of stimulating and interesting conversations, great walks, great to have an ensuite single room, smashing leader and I would have loved it to be a whole week!" Maggie

"First time on a WalkingWomen holiday. Very pleasantly surprised. Our guide was knowledgeable on the local area and good at keeping the pace of the walks to the right level for everybody to enjoy".

"The peace and quiet of the accommodation and the walks were invigorating after life in High Wycombe. If all your holidays offer this kind of regeneration for the mind, body and soul, I am there! Thanks to Yvonne for being patient with my knees on the downhills and for a great break from city life". Merle

"Wonderful holiday, very nice group of women, the walks were well planned. The staff at Losehill were friendly and helpful. I loved the food too!! Lovely location and views on the walks".

"Enjoyed the holiday, the walks were slightly shorter than expected and I had hoped for a bit more variety but felt very well looked after and Losehill gave us a good welcome".

"I enjoyed the holiday and it exceeded expectations - this was my first WW holiday. It rained but it didn't matter especially as their drying room was very efficient" Yvonne

"Great time, right up to WW standards, good guiding, lovely part of the country. I will certainly be back and looking forward to my next WW trip already! Thank you again!" Ruth

"An excellent 4 days in very good company. Accommodation excellent, comfortable, spacious halls, lounge and friendly helpful staff. The walks were well chosen, if a little shorter than expected, excellent and enjoyable. I got to know this part of the Peak District much better, which I was pleased about and I enjoyed the beautiful landscape".
