------ ---Gentle Patterdale

Gentle Patterdale - 8-11 June
with Sue B

8th June

This short break was based at the White Lion Inn in Patterdale village. We met up on Friday evening, had a nice meal together, and then strolled down the road to the jetty at Glenridding to enjoy the lovely evening.

We sat for a while by Angle Tarn Beck and then took the slightly higher path to Hartsop.

Another Patterdale view.

We walked through the delightful hamlet full of really interesting buildings many dating from 17th Century in the traditional Lakes long house style.

Strolling up Dovedale.By the beck in Dovedale.

With such a beautiful day and lots of time in hand we strolled up Dove dale to have our lunch in a tranquil spot by Dovedale beck.

Some of us got just a little bit higher up the beck to see a lovely little waterfall.

Walking round the back of Hallin Fell.

We had a lovely walk round the back of Hallin Fell across meadows full of buttercups down to Sandwick, where we again had a bit of a climb up for views and lunch.

Multi-coloured sailing boats were out in force on the lake.

The lakeshore path undulated and the weather was hot, so by the time we got to Silver Bay we had a long stop and Sue swam again.

It wasn't far from there to Side Farm, where we stopped yet again for tea, ice cream and cake.

A few of us had another evening stroll underneath the beginning of the climb up St Sunday crag and down the lane back to Patterdale.

11th June

At Aira Force. This was a short walk, due to people leaving early.

We drove a couple of miles up to Aira Force and walked the beautiful waterfall path up the beck stopping lots on the way.

The owner's wife had made two sculptures of a man and a woman out of chicken wire, which were very effective.

We walked back down the other bank of the beck back to the car park and said our farewells after a very pretty and rather warm holiday!
