------ ---Gentle Derwent Water w/e

Gentle Derwent Water w/e 18-20 May
with Sue B

19th May

Setting off from Keswick. We had all arrived the previous evening and gone out for a meal together, starting to get to know one another.

Saturday morning dawned wet, and we set off from Keswick to walk through woodland to the farm at Castle rigg, passing views of Derwentwater.

Wonderful views despite the wet.

We then walked down the road to join the old railway path that follows the River Greta back into Keswick.

We were back quite early so had a visit to the museum, which was very interesting. Some of us played the huge stone xylophone they have there.

A couple of people wanted a further walk, so we went down the lake past Friars Crag and then to the road and up Castlehead viewpoint.

The weather had improved a lot and we had fantastic views.

In the evening we ate out together again, sampling another of Keswick's good eating places.

We walked around the head of Derwent Water with superb views of Skiddaw at the other end of the lake.

Crossing the board walk to Lodore Falls.

We then took the board walk to Lodore and went to see the spectacular falls there. There was plenty of water in the river.
