------ ---Intermediate Peak District

Intermediate Peak District 31 Oct-4 Nov
with Sally

31st October

The entrance to Losehill Hall. Everyone arrived at Losehill Hall in time for a quick drink before dinner.

We had the place to ourselves for the first two nights so it seemed very quiet to begin with but we soon started to get to know each other.

1st November

About to set off from Losehill. The weather was overcast and quite blustery.

We set off across the fields to the old road which is no longer in use due to landslip.

Mam Tor.

We stopped for ice-cream and warm drinks at the Blue John Cavern and admired some of the Blue John items on sale there.

Walking through the fields.

We then walked to the summit of Mam Tor for excellent views of the Edale Valley and Kinder Scout.

Walking along the old road.

A break on Mam Tor.

A break on Mam Tor.

Mam Tor.

Mam Tor.

The autumn colours were superb and we feasted our eyes as we walked along the ridge past Hollins Cross, Back Tor and on to Lose Hill where we found a sheltered spot out of the wind for lunch.

View back to Mam Tor.

We didn't spend long because we were getting cold, so we descended on field paths to Hope and walked back along the riverside path to Castleton.

Some went on to look around Castleton whilst others went back to Losehill Hall to relax.

2nd November

Group photo on day 2.A misty start and as we were driven to Hayfield in the minibus we wondered if we were going to see anything on today's walk except the person in fromt.

Autumn colours.

We started at Bowden Bridge car park, the start of the Kinder Trespass in 1932 and as we were walking up to Mount Famine the sun came out and the mist vanished.

We could see wonderful views of Kinder Scout , Stanage and Derwent Edges and as far as Manchester on the skyline.

Walking up to Mount Famine.

We kept high all day climbing over South Head and then following the Penine Bridleway as far as the Edale Road.

Fabulous autumn colours.

We then walked along Rushup Edge with views of Edale and Hope valleys stretched out before us and back to Losehill Hall by the Old Road. Tired but happy.

In the evening some went to try out the night life in Castleton whilst others sat and chatted and played suduko in the lounge.

3rd November

Mist & drizzle to start with.Misty and drizzle to begin with then lovely sunny day.

We walked around the side of Lose Hill on field paths and had elevenses overlooking Win Hill across the valley.

More autumn colour.

A short steep section above the National Trust field centre and then a gentle incline on the flanks of Win Hill brought us to a lovely sheltered spot out of the wind behind a stone wall for lunch.

Ladybower reservoir.

The views from the top of Win Hill were wonderful. Derwent, Bamfordand and Stanage edges stood out clear as a bell and the tree colour was incredible too.

Stunning Autumn colours.

Taking in the views.

Descending through woodland.

We then descended through woodland to Aston and on to Hope for coffee.

Coffee on the way back to Losehill.

Then back to Losehill Hall via the riverside path.

4th November

The mist burns off.We had frost last night and it was misty and cold to begin the day but the sun soon burnt off the mist.

Stunning effects as the sun burns away the mist.

Setting off along the Cavern path.

We said goodbye to two women who had to catch early trains and walked into Castleton and along the Cavern path stopping at Treak Cliff Cavern for elevenses.

Stopping for coffee at Treak Cliff Cavern.

Headed for Cave Dale.

We then descended via the steep but very pretty route through Cave Dale.

Headed for Cave Dale.

A break above Cave Dale.

Cave Dale.

Cave Dale.

It was a little wet and slippy underfoot which required concentration but we stopped frequently so we could admire the view and not just our feet.

In Castleton we visited the Farmers market, then sadly said our final goodbyes.

"Very enjoyable: great walks with great people. A super break from normal routine. Certainly exceeded my expectations as weather was better than anticipated and the scenery as good as the Lake District! The accommodation served good food with generous portions. Lovely walks with plent of pauses for view gazing and breath catching." Gill

"I have had the most enjoyable 4 days and would recommend this holiday to other women. The walks were rewarding and full of information. Our leader Sally had a fine understanding of the landscape and I never felt hurried or worried about my ability to keep up with the group. Sally took care to ensure that our walks were varied and that different views were seen every day. Everyone's ability was considered. This was my first WW experience and will not be my last. I am looking forward to another break as soon as I can afford it!" Alison

"I enjoyed it very much. Very happy with the accommodation. We were well looked after, lovely walks just at the right level and speed for me" Rosalind
