WalkingWomen ---------Multigrade holidays
Holidays that offer a choice of grades...
On a multi-grade holiday there are two or more
guides so that we can offer you a choice of walks each day - one harder, one
easier - so that you can choose the one that suits your level of fitness.
This should prove helpful if you're not sure which
grade of walks suits you best. On these holidays you can swap walks from one
day to the next in order to stretch or take it easy according to how you
feel.

This year's Spring gathering is in
Scotland - staying on the Comrie Estate in Perthshire with a choice of Gentle,
Intermediate & Slow High walks each day.
Fuller detail
This new Scottish holiday
with Jo Cound, Sue M, and Fran offers a choice of Gentle Photography,
Intermediate, or Slow High walks each day, set in the heart of scenic
Perthshire on the edge of the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park. Here
we will be staying at Comrie Croft - a hostel with a difference, located 2
miles from the picturesque village of Comrie with opportunities to walk into
stunning landscapes at all levels of difficulty. Wildlife abounds here - osprey
and kites nest locally, deer and mountain hare are found on the hills, and at
all times of the year there is a rich diversity of flora and fauna thanks to
ancient woodlands. There are many gentle walks with wonderful photo
opportunities in the nearby glens, beside rivers, to waterfalls, and up onto
gentle viewpoints. For Intermediate walkers there are the many exciting
Corbetts of the area - the mid range hills and mountains over 2500ft (760m),
and for Slow High we will have a choice of more challenging Monroes - mountains
over 3000ft (914m). You can choose the walks that suit you best, and swap to a
different grade if need be to take it easy or stretch yourself as you warm up.
At Comrie Croft we have taken the whole Lodge so that we have room to spread
out, sharing with 1-2 other women in comfortable bunk rooms which can usually
sleep a greater number. What's more, half of the rooms have ensuite facilities!
Comrie Croft has good facilities including a cosy lounge and a dining room with
mountain views. Travel - nearest train

This holiday offers a choice of walks
each day based near beautiful Bohinj Lake in the Julian Alps - all in ensuite
single rooms.
Fuller detail
This lovely holiday is based
near Lake Bohinj in the Julian Alps and offers a rich choice of Low
Intermediate and Intermediate walks from our base at friendly Penzion Bohinj.
There are wonderful low walks beside the lake and through the Bohinj valley
with its low hills and hay meadows full of flowers. Here the Bohinj River flows
emerald with snowmelt, while one of its tributaries has carved a dramatic
limestone gorge that we can walk through. Higher up, there are beautiful
hillside pastures and more waterfalls, refuges, and views of the Julian Alps to
tempt us beyond the Vogel cable car. On one day we will visit Bled for a choice
of two more gorge walks, and a chance to sit in cafes by this other jewel of a
lake. Penzion Bohinj is situated beside the Mostnica River in Stara Fuzina - a
quiet traditional village near the foot of the lake, and we have reserved all
the rooms so that everyone can have a single! The rooms are not large and are simply furnished in a
clean modern style, each with a small shower room. Downstairs is the large
dining room that opens onto the garden, and we'll eat here on 4 nights - simple
but tasty home-cooked meals, going out to eat on the remaining 3 nights
(restaurant meals not included - from £10).

10-14 Jul - Int & Slow High
Great Langdale |
| Small hotel - Marian & Marcelle - Lake
District |
|
| 4 nights full board:
£355 |
This Intermediate and Slow High break
will have all the fabulous rocky walks of Great Langdale to explore without the
pressure of time at either level. Choose which grade you prefer each day.
Fuller detail
The Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel
was originally a farm, then a coaching inn, and has long been popular with
walkers and climbers - especially for a drink at its Hikers Bar after walking.
It is a lovely old building with charm and character located beneath the
Langdale Pikes with Lingmoor Fell, Pike O'Blisco, Crinkle Crags and Bow Fell
right on the doorstep. This makes the hotel perfect for a holiday offering both
Intermediate and Slow High walks. Like on other double grade holidays, you can
choose the grade you prefer, or swap the next day if needed. 'Slow High' walks
are high level walks taken at a slower pace. The dramatic Langdale Pikes will
be a 'must' for both groups, and give superb views in all directions from their
rocky tops. For other Intermediate walks there is wild Blea Rigg beyond Stickle
Tarn with a walk back through Great Langdale; the lovely heather-covered slopes
of Lingmoor Fell; and rockier Pike O'Blisco. For Slow High walks, after a 'warm
up' walk on the Langdale Pikes, we might tackle the nearby Coniston fells. The
Crinkle Crags ridge and Bow Fell could give us stunning views of Scafell Pike
and as far as the Isle of Man, leaving Lingmoor Fell or Pike O'Blisco for the
last day. The ODG offers a good mix of shared and single rooms, some of which
are ensuite while others are standard with a washbasin and a bathroom nearby.
Well-behaved dogs are allowed.

13-20 Jul - Gran Paradiso,
Italy |
| Int & High Alpine-Lorraine &
Madeline-hotel & refuges |
|
| 7 nights full board &
everything except flight: £505 |
A favourite trek into Italy's Gran
Paradiso National Park in the Western Alps, staying in a small hotel, then
refuges, with a choice of intermediate and high level walks each day (you carry
a day pack only!)
Fuller detail
An opportunity to spend a week in the splendour of the
Gran Paradiso National Park in Italy's Western Alps - with breathtaking views
all around, alpine flowers, marmots, ibex and chamoix! There will be 2 guides
to offer an intermediate and a high level choice each day (walking with a day
pack only - your luggage is transported for you). We start from Albergo Gran
Paradiso, Noasca, in the Valle del Orca; making our way over 2 days past
beautiful lakes to Col del Nivolet at the head of the valley, with a night at
valley refuge Le Fonti on the way. At Col del Nivolet we stop for 3 nights at
Rifugio Citta di Chivasso, which is perched spectacularly above the lakes of
Piano del Nivolet and a whole new alpine valley. This wonderful traditional
refuge has dormitory beds, cold water washing, and excellent food in true
Italian style. Here there are walks at both levels, with stunning views of
glaciers and distant ranges
including Gran Paradiso
itself, or less rugged paths through flower-filled Piano del Nivolet. On the
5th day we return to Rifugio Le Fonti via an old royal game trail - perhaps the
best day of all, then back past quaint deserted villages and frescoes to Noasca
for our last night. The high walks are High Alpine on 2-3 days - with more
descent than the normal high level grade.
The three nights of high
refuge life are a wonderful experience, but resources at altitude are limited,
and taking account of this is a necessary part of the holiday: use water
sparingly, hand wash rather than shower every day; solar power only - no power
sockets available; bottled drinking water.

the least expensive last year - if you book early. We will happily buy your

| 4 nights full board:
£295 |
A double group holiday in the
beautiful Nantlle valley of Snowdonia giving you a choice of Slow High or High
Level, and even the opportunity to do some scrambling.
Fuller detail
This holiday offers an exciting choice of
Slow High and High Level mountain walks off the beaten track in the Snowdonia
National Park. You choose which high pace suits you best, and you can swap if
need be. Some walks will include some scrambling if conditions allow. For this
holiday we will be based in the lovely Nantlle Valley at friendly Trigonos
Centre - perfect for WW groups with attractive twin rooms and plenty of
singles. The glorious Nantlle ridge - one of the best ridge walks in Wales -
will be right on our doorstep. Moel Hebog near Beddgelert is another likely
choice - steep but rewarding with breathtaking views of
Snowdon. We can also tackle the lesser used Snowdon Ranger path up
the back of Snowdon, returning over Moel Cynghorion with Llyn Cwellyn lying
below. This would leave nearby Mynydd Mawr as an obvious choice for the last
day. Trigonos Centre is set in its own grounds near Nantlle lake, and is

£225 |
A lovely time of year to be walking in
Borrowdale or on the surrounding fells. This holiday offers you a choice of
Gentle or Intermediate walks each day - you choose which will suit you best.
Fuller detail
This holiday offers a choice of Gentle or Intermediate
walks each day - and you can swap between them to stretch yourself or take it
easy according to how you feel. Gentle walks will take us into the heart of
Borrowdale, following mossy woodland paths where we might see deer and red
squirrels, or walking beside the lovely River Derwent for tea at Grange. On
other days, we can explore the wilder tributaries of the Derwent - the
Langstrath and Seathwaite valleys - with foaming pools that might invite a swim
or paddle, and rushing waterfalls if it's been raining. Or we can even go as
far as Derwent Water for a peaceful stroll beside the lake - returning by bus
if we wish. For Intermediate walks we might warm up climbing the path to Dock
Tarn which will give us superb views over Eagle Crag and allow us to reach
Watendlath Tarn as well as several less-frequented 'tops' nearby. The next day
we might be tempted by the fabulous High Spy ridge where our uphill effort will
be rewarded with views in all directions and a lovely descent overlooking
Derwent Water. Alternatively we might head for Haystacks overlooking
Buttermere, or tackle Glaramara just across the valley. This holiday is based
