Patagonia in the southernmost portion of South America contains some of the most awe-inspiring scenery in the world. It is a land of wilderness where broad expanses of pampa meet the glacially sculpted spires of the Andes. Unique in its flora and fauna, and the wind blows strongly here much of the time. This high level holiday includes the spectacular 5-night 'W' trek in Las Torres del Paine National Park taking you to the foot of the soaring spires of Las Torres and close to Glacier Grey. We will also visit the spectacular Moreno glacier where huge blocks fall off into Lake Argentino to float away as ice bergs. The holiday finishes with 3 days walking in the magnificent Mt Fitzroy region of the Andes, including walking past Laguna de los Tres to reach close up views of Fitzroy's incredible North Face. Though not at altitude, non-technical, with day pack only, the walking in these areas is strenuous with plenty of 'up', and some long days in challenging terrain. The accommodation will be in hotels in Buenos Aries, tents or refuges on trek, and a hostel in Chalten near Fitzroy. Besides the internal flight between Buenos Aries and El Calafete, there will be a total 19 hours of transfer by minibus during the trip: north on Route 40 to the Paine National Park, and south to el Chalten. The first and last nights are spent in Buenos Aries with time to relax, take a city tour, see the historic area of San Isidro, or shop for souvenirs. La Tania 1350m is a small friendly resort just outside Courchevel with easy access to the Courchevel slopes and the superb Trois Vallees ski area. There are slopes here to suit all abilities, and with 15 of us in total there'll be plenty of company to attend ski school with or to ski with in small groups. For this holiday we have exclusive use of Chalet Nicole which has been so appreciated by other WW groups in the past. Chalet Nicole is run by a small chalet company called 'Family-Friendly Skiing'. The chalet has a convenient ski-in/ski-out position near the bottom of the red run into La Tania - just above the telecabine which accesses all of the Courchevel slopes. Alternatively it's a short walk from the blue run. Chalet staff drive beginners to ski school in their minibus, and pick you up later to make life easy! (English speaking instructors).

The chalet has 7 twin bedrooms and 1 single, all fully ensuite, mostly with baths. The single room is smaller and has a shower (£10 a night single supplement). The chalet has a good-sized lounge/dining room on the 2nd floor built around an open fire. There's a sauna downstairs, and a hot tub outdoors for an after ski soak! Breakfast & evening meals will be prepared for us by the chalet staff except for the one evening we go out to eat. The food was very good last year.

Courchevel has snow conditions to dream about due to its largely north facing slopes, its height, and its large number of snow cannons right down to the village. La Tania was originally built as an Olympic village with lots of chalets, après ski bars and little restaurants. It probably has the friendliest atmosphere of all the Courchevel resorts. It is approached by lovely tree runs - a blue and a red - and enjoys very fast access to the higher slopes and a good lift connection to both Courchevel and adjacent Meribel.

Winter colours, frosty mornings, shapely winter trees, and maybe even some snow on the tops - this is a favourite time for many people to come walking in the Lakes. We will be staying at friendly Glaramara Centre in Borrowdale - clean, simple accommodation but with plenty of standard single rooms (no supplement), good food, and a warm fire to come back to at the end of the day. This holiday offers a choice of Intermediate and High Intermediate walks each day - which is useful if you're not sure exactly which grade will suit you or if you like to vary your walks. The walks will range from secluded Dock Tarn or the wonderful High Spy ridge, to wild Glaramara and the higher views of Green Gable and High Raise. After walking we can stop at a tea shop, or get back to relax with a drink from the Centre's small bar.

Have you ever wished for more confident map reading skills? Well, whether you've done some before or are a complete novice, this holiday is perfect for you. There will be 2 guides to cater for different levels of previous map reading experience. One group will start from basics and work up to using compasses - leaving with a secure sense of how to find your way using a walking map, and how to find out where you are (and where you're going!) by using map and compass together. The other group will start with a compass refresher, then go on to apply compass techniques in more advance situations - great if you've done Maps & Compasses before and want to consolidate what you know and take it further. This holiday with Marian & Yvonne is based at Glenthorne Guest House in Grasmere where there are lots of single rooms available. Maps and compasses will be provided (or bring your own!)

A lovely gentle walking holiday with Sally to start off the year, based at Glenthorne Guest House in Grasmere at the same time as the Low Intermediate Map & Compass holiday (see above), so there'll be an opportunity to learn or extend your map reading in the evening if you wish. For our gentle walks we might start with the scenic lakeshore path beside Grasmere and Rydal Water, stopping at Rydal Hall for a hot drink, then returning beneath the trees along the old Coffin Trail. Another lovely walk is the one past Sour Milk Gill waterfall to Easedale Tarn, or we might visit pretty Loughrigg Tarn, or explore the wilder valley of Far Easedale. This holiday is perfect whatever your level of previous experience as there will be 2 cross country skiing groups each day (including instruction for beginners), and a separate showshoe walking group which skiers may also join if their XC muscles need a rest! We will be based for 7 nights at Pension Pohoda in Kvilda village in the Sumava National Park. Kvilda is the highest village in the Czech Republic at 1065m with a network of well-maintained cross country trails and walking tracks through the valleys and woods of the area, linking small villages, or taking us to such beautiful places as the source of the Vltava River. In Kvilda we have reserved ensuite twin rooms and plenty of single rooms arranged in pairs to share a bathroom - a typical Czech arrangement (Single suppl. £10 a night). The holiday is priced on a full board basis including packed lunches to take with us each day. In addition, Pension Pohoda has a sister hotel across the road with an attractive bar and other facilities such as a sauna and games room for our use. Within easy reach of the South, the Cotswolds is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with sleepy villages built of mellow Cotswold stone, and rolling hills full of delightful low level walks. This weekend break with Barbara H is based at the very comfortable and friendly Cleeve Hill Hotel which lies only 100 yards from the Cotswold Way at Cleeve Hill and shares the same superb vantage point. From here we can make a wide meandering circuit of Cleeve Hill with views in all directions, or there's a lovely walk from the un-spoilt village of Winchcoombe, stopping to see the wonderful gardens at Sudeley Castle. There can also be an extra walk on Friday afternoon if you can arrive by 1pm. Cleeve Hill Hotel is beautifully decorated with lovely ensuite rooms - mainly doubles that we can take as singles, and two attractive and spacious twin rooms with very good views. Delicious breakfasts are served in the light and airy conservatory, and in the evening we can eat at the hotel, or stroll out to sample good eating places in the village. A fabulous 2-week intermediate holiday in Nepal. Includes time in Kathmandu and Pokhara, and a 6-day tea house trek in the Annapurna region...

The incredible experience of trekking in Nepal need not be purely for high level walkers. The Hindu and Buddhist temples of Kathmandu, the amazing medieval city of Baktapur, the serenity of Phewa Tal ('Fish Tail Lake') in Pokhara, and the breath taking views of the Himalaya are all features of this intermediate holiday to Nepal with Linda - including a 6-day circular trek to Gorapani in the Annapurna region. At Gorapani, weather permitting, we'll climb Poon Hill and watch the sun rise over the magnificent Annapurna range. There'll be bamboo forests and huge rhododendron trees in flower, monkeys in the trees, steep stone steps that we'll take as slowly as we need, and little villages dotting the terraced hillsides where we'll stop for tea. While staying at Pokhara before the trek, we will have a warm-up walk to Sunrise View at Sarankot, and maybe cross the lake by boat to climb to the Peace Temple for another special view of the mountains. The walks on this holiday are to the full limit of Intermediate, and on one trekking day we will be walking uphill for 6 hours. Our accommodation over this holiday will vary from 3-star hotels in Kathmandu and Pokhara to simple tea houses on the trek (basic accommodation with clean rooms and filtered water. Some have squat toilets). Luggage is transported for you - you carry a day pack only.

This year we are moving our Wye Valley holidays to the Royal George Hotel near Tintern Abbey where quality ensuite double rooms are available as singles. This lovely area is steeped in history and rich in wildlife, archaeology, and industrial remains. Here the River Wye forms the boundary between England and Wales, and King Offa built his famous dyke near the English bank. In places ancient woodland clings to the steep sides of dramatic limestone gorge, while elsewhere the river is boarded by tranquil meadows. Our first walk will take us across the river, and up to Brockweir Bridge before returning along the opposite bank. There is a local vineyard to visit, and we can stop for tea and home-made cakes at the old station. On other days we'll take the bus and walk to the spectacular Eagle's Nest viewpoint or explore historic tracks towards Angidy. After walking we can explore Tintern village with its old pubs, tourist shops and craft galleries. Tintern is easy to reach by road or rail - close to the M4 & M5, or a 6-mile taxi or bus ride from Chepstow station. (Ensuite single supplement £15 a night). Guided by Jo M.

This short break with Marian offers 3 days of wonderful Intermediate walks in Borrowdale: ridge walks and waterfalls, craggy fells with fabulous views, winter trees, golden bracken - and we'll be well placed to enjoy it all at the Glaramara Centre near Seatoller. Though its decor is simple and like a hostel in some respects, Glaramara has mainly single rooms without a supplement, serves good food, and is fantastic value in every way. Its bar and large comfy lounge both have open log fires, and the general atmosphere is warm and friendly. From here we can access all the best intermediate Borrowdale walks - tranquil Dock Tarn or the splendid High Spy ridge; Glaramara might prove irresistible across the valley, or if the weather keeps us low, there are plenty of lovely low rambles through Borrowdale to enjoy.

Picturesque white-washed villages with twisting narrow streets…. hillsides covered in spring flowers, almond trees in blossom, or shady olive groves, citrus orchards, and muscatel vineyards… breathtaking views of mountains, or to the Mediterranean in the distance… this is the Sierra Almijara, 35 minutes inland from the Costa del Sol and 40 minutes from Malaga. We'll be staying near the village of Canillas, at Finca el Cerrillo - an excellent small hotel with lovely views, beautiful ensuite rooms, and a small swimming pool. Mostly we can walk from the door exploring paths into the Sierra de Tejeda National Park, or we can take the bus a little further afield. With Granada only 2 hours away, there will also be a day off from walking so that you can visit the Alhambra (not included - approx £30). This year we are changing hotel for this popular holiday in Rothbury - moving a little up-market to gain more ensuite single rooms at the Coquetvale Hotel. The valley of Coquetdale offers delightful low intermediate walking. From Garleigh Moor and Simonside we hope to have spectacular views to the sea at Druridge Bay and north to the purple Cheviot Hills. The valley scenery is special in a different way: rolling green fields dotted with sheep as we walk to the pretty hamlets of Holystone and Sharpeton; views over the meandering River Coquet as we look back down the valley; or the extensive woods and grounds of Cragside full of exotic trees where we might see red squirrels. The whole of Coquetdale is steeped in history - from ancient settlements and Stone Age rock art on Garleigh Moor, to tranquil Lady's Well pool at Holystone. Rothbury is a picturesque small town beside the River Coquet with plenty of small shops and tea shops we can investigate after walking. Sheila Gwyn used to offer this Cornish holiday as part of the Wild Rose programme, and we have persuaded her to guide it again for WalkingWomen! The holiday is based at the very comfortable Chy-an-Albany Hotel in St Ives. From here we can explore the wild and rugged granite coastline of the stunning West Penwith peninsula with the sea always present and where seals and dolphins are often seen. Occasionally we may do a walk on the gentler south coast or venture inland. Walks can include places like Sennen Cove, Lands End, Porthcurno, Zennor, and also Marazion, with its close proximity to St Michael's Mount. Some days are intermediate in grade, others low intermediate. There will also be a day off from walking to explore St Ives with its many galleries, cafes, narrow streets and white sandy beaches. The peaceful Quantock Hills in Somerset were the first area in England to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Standing above the Vale of Taunton, they afford far-reaching views across nine counties and over the Bristol Channel to the Welsh hills. Our walks will explore lesser known routes over moorland hilltops and through quiet wooded combes full of spring flowers where we might see ponies, badgers, buzzards, and red deer. We will be based at Huntstile Organic Farm on the outskirts of Goathurst village - a 14th century farmhouse that has its own stone circle, a spring-fed lake, and woods to explore. In addition to the farmhouse we will have the use of the Apple Loft, the Cider House, the Studio, the Summerhouse - delightfully converted outbuildings offering a range of ensuite twins, ensuite and standard singles. In the evening Lizzie will cook us delicious dinners. Lizzie and John grow many of their own vegetables. They have a small herd of cattle, and "a flock of organic chickens that lay the most delicious free-range eggs in the world (probably)!" Away from the crowds, this Easter holiday with Anita & Helen has exclusive use of High Trenhouse near tranquil Malham Tarn in the Yorkshire Dales - a beautifully converted farm and outbuildings on the edge of the moors above Malham Cove and Gordale. The Pennine Way passes close by on its way over Fountains Fell to Pen-y-ghent, and across the moors are interesting paths to fascinating Malham Cove and the lively small town of Settle with its tearooms and small shops. High Trenhouse offers a large number of single rooms - a boon for WW groups - and most have ensuite facilities. There are comfortable spaces for relaxing or making our own fun including a small honesty bar, the food is delicious, and there's even a sauna and Jacuzzi - so bring your swimsuit! A choice of Gentle and Intermediate walks each day will allow you to move between the grades to take it easy or stretch according to mood. We will also arrange an inexpensive shared lift from Settle station at 4pm to make it simple to come by train.
