Get Goat fit with Jo

Hebden Bridge is a pretty market town in the Upper Calder Valley, West Yorkshire. It is 8 miles west of Halifax which has become very well known as the home of Anne Lister at Shibden Hall. If you have time this could be a place to visit and stay a while.

We choose Hebden for a little winter walking as it is such a lovely town and there are sheltered spots if needed and many cosy cafes and pubs if its gets cold. Dress up warmly and bracing winter walks can be just the thing.

It is a lovely place to stay if you can and we can advise.

Itinerary – subject to change depending on the weather and at the discretion of your guide. Jo will discuss the walks with you each morning.

Saturday 15th March – Meet at 10.30am at Hebden Bridge Railway Station

A wonderful walk up to the ancient village of Heptonstall, visiting the grave of Sylvia Plath as we go.   We will then follow old packhorse paths to join the Pennine Way.   Crossing high meadow land, we will then start the route down to the pretty canal and back to vibrant Hebden Bridge with its many cafes and small shops. A wonderful place for a cuppa or a local beer to end the day.

11km, 350m ascent (7 miles, 1150 ft ascent).

Sunday 16th March  10.30am start at Hebden Bridge Railway station.

Today’s walk is on the south side of the valley. The path ascends to the farmstead of Old Chamber and then follows broad tracks and a path up to the local landmark and peace monument of Stoodley Pike. We then descend through fields and woods to the hamlet of Horsehold and then down to Hebden Bridge for tea and treats!

10.5km,375m ascent ( 6.5 miles 1250ft ascent )
