DETAILS

Hebden Bridge has proved a very popular venue for our Get Goat Fit day/weekend walks.   It’s a lively small town set in the dramatic pennine hills.  There’s not only lovely walks, but the town has lots of small artisan shops and cafes, and there are plenty of places to stay.   And Jo, our guide, lives in the town and knows the area very well, and is an experienced WalkingWomen guide.

ITINERARY

Itinerary – Please note that the routes may change at the decision of the guide, particularly taking into account the weather and the needs of the group.

These are the proposed walks:

Sat and Sunday : Meet at Hebden Bridge Railway station at 10.30.  Parking is available at the station or on the main road nearby.

Please bring a  hot drink/water and a packed lunch each day.

Jo, our guide, will be booking a restaurant for a Saturday evening meal for those who want it.   Please confirm with WalkingWomen if you want to join for this sociable meet up.

These walks are designed to give a taste of the lower end of Goat 2 walks which are the most popular holiday level.   It’s hard to avoid walking uphill in the dramatic Hebden Bridge area with its steep sided valleys and moorland tops.  However, the walks are designed to encourage women who may be uncertain of their fitness, so the walks will be taken slowly with regular stops to catch our breathe, and our experienced guide Jo at hand to give support.   The ethos is for everyone to look out for others in the group and to enjoy being out and about in fab scenery rather than to chase along.  The Saturday walk is the more strenuous, and the Sunday walk is planned to be a more gentle lower level walk using a network of paths along the valley bottom.   Please contact WalkingWomen if you need more information.

SATURDAY  –  Up to Heptonstall and back to Hebden via Colden Clough

10k / 6 miles.    Ascent  285m / 935ft

We walk into Hebden Bridge, see the famous packhorse bridge, and can stop for toilets and buying any last minute food or treats!  Then out of town along Hebden Water before walking up to Heptonstall through woodland.   This is a good steady uphill climb of just over 100m but we will take this slowly, with regular stops, and admire the views.   We will then explore this historic hillside village and have a breather.   Then we walk on footpaths including some ancient packhorse routes across fields with fab long distance views before taking a lovely path down through woods to the picturesque mill ruins in Colden Clough.   We then head back into Hebden Bridge for a restoring cuppa.

Saturday evening meal together for those who are staying

SUNDAY   –   Valley footpaths and the canal towpath heading eastwards to Brearley Fields and back.  10k / 6 miles.   Ascent 160m / 525ft

Starting again at the station, we head away from Hebden using a range of tracks, footpaths and the canal towpath to explore the valley but still having a some ups and downs, and some good views.

We will finish by going again into Hebden for the necessary post walk refreshments before saying our goodbyes!
