Walking Grade: 2 Goats as weather permitting we will walk some of the South West Coast path

Base:  The Royal Lion, central Lyme Regis and moments from the spectacular Dorset coastline. You can enjoy good food and a cosy English pub,

Arrive for a 3pmish check in. If arriving at Axminster Station arrive for around 2.30pm for a pick up. Return after 2pm Sunday as we will do a Sunday morning walk.

Briefing once you have settled in with our guide Chrissie at  18.00 in the hotel.

Group size : 6- 8 women

Price: £1,250 per person for this small cosy , festive group holiday in your own en-suite room. If you bring a friend/female family member and share a room the price is £900 per person. We will adjust your invoice after you pay the deposit.

DETAILS

The historic seaside town of Lyme Regis nestles in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty at the point where the rugged West Dorset and East Devon coastlines meet – the heart of the Jurassic Coast. It is nicknamed the Pearl of Dorset. The town and the surrounding area are renowned for their natural beauty, and it has a fascinating history stretching back to the 8th century.
Lyme Regis is famous as the birthplace of Mary Anning, one of history’s most important fossil collectors and palaeontologists. You may have seen the film Ammonite. You can learn more about Mary’s extraordinary life and discoveries at Lyme Regis Museum, which is built on the site of her family’s home.

It is little known that Lyme Regis takes festive lights very seriously and the community fund and work tirelessly to brighten their town.The 2026 Christmas lights will have been switched on when we are there creating an enchanting feel to the main street of Lyme after dark. We will enjoy walking amongst them.

This weekend holiday will give you the chance to explore everything Lyme Regis has to offer including the famous Cobb wall – a walk along the Cobb is a must for any visitor, enabling you to walk in the footsteps of the characters in John Fowles’ The French Lieutenant’s Woman.
Our walks will explore stretches of the SouthWest Coast Path from Lyme Regis that are famous for their rugged outline and varied geology. But there will also be time to enjoy the many small independent shops that could offer a few surprise ideas for Christmas presents and you may even find a real ammonite fossil or two on the beach as a special present to take home. There will be a good choice of interesting places to eat and even the possibility of a real Devon cream tea along the way. Lyme is full of charm and surprises, a town that has so much more to offer than just a breath of sea air. Although that will be reviving too!

ITINERARY

Our walks may change depending on the weather. Your guide Chrissie will brief you each evening about the next days walks.

Day 1 – arrival and settle in. Welcome briefing at 18.00 followed by dinner together and a walk amongst the towns festive lights.

Day 2 – 5.5 miles.  A walk along the South West Coast path from Golden Cap to Charmouth. If the tide is low we can walk all the way back to Lyme along the beach to see the fascinating fossil cliffs. Tide dependent.

Day 3 – 6 miles- The Undercliff walk – we walk inland toward Uplyme along the river Lim. We then walk over towards the Undercliff and back through lower Lyme.

Day 4 – morning stroll down to the harbour and out along the Cobb before going back up the gardens via the Alexandra Hotel for a luxurious coffee before departure.
