A conversation with an old colleague went something like this…..
I have a friend who leads a Nordic Walking Group and has just started a new podcast all about the benefits of Nordic walking. Are you interested in Nordic Walking at WalkingWomen?
Funny how things happen. I had just returned from our WalkingWomen holiday to the Cairngorms in Scotland. One of our guests is a keen walker, but like many of us, as we get older, our fitness and balance sometimes lessen. She talked about wanting to work on her balance, and we discussed Nordic walking as it is known to really help build fitness and balance.
Only a few days later to be connecting with Mary from British Nordic Walking and the creator of the Podcast ‘Walking on Air seemed amazing. Mary qualified as a British Nordic Walking instructor in 2014 and teaches regular classes in Clare Castle Country Park, Suffolk and Milton Country Park, Cambridge.
It is incredible how connections happen and where they lead you…
We chatted and chatted, and before we knew it, we were planning a new partnership.
At WalkingWomen we have started encouraging women to ‘get goat fit’ with a series of day walks, shorter trips to try hills or mountains and to work with guides to help make sure fitness is right for the holiday they want to book. But we cannot yet provide enough events across the UK, and to be able to offer our guests the chance to join groups of Nordic walkers is perfect. Nordic Walking is a way to walk in a group, to really develop fitness safely and to have fun in the process. It might even attract women to join our Nordic cross-country holidays!
You can Find a Local Instructor by clicking on the link below, which takes you to the British Nordic Walking’s page: https://britishnordicwalking.org.uk/apps/store-locator
We will also be supporting the podcast to get the message of WalkingWomen holidays to the Nordic community. We have a lot in common, and we all love keeping active and being outdoors. If you are a Nordic Walker and you join a WalkingWomen holiday because you heard about us on the Walking on Air Podcast, just add the code WOA23, and we will give you £50 discount on your holiday.
If you would like to listen to the podcast – maybe whilst out walking or travelling or that time when you can sit down and relax and listen to it is available to download (or play directly) from Apple Podcasts and all good podcast platforms, just search ‘walking on air’
Each week an expert is interviewed on a particular topic, and so far, 51 episodes have been published. Lots to catch up on! Topics range from the benefits of Nordic Walking gained by people with long-term health issues such as limb loss, Parkinson’s and arthritis to weight loss, managing menopause and mental health.
You will hear WalkingWomen interviewed sometime in June.
