The Magic of Norway to start 2027

SUMMARY

Dates: Friday January 29th to Friday January 5th 2027

Guide: Wenche, mountain guide in all weathers , Grethe who is a certified Astro Guide and will help you discover the night sky for those interested.

Walking Grade: this is a Goat 2 winter experience for cross country ski lovers. There may also be the chance to try snow shoeing ,depending on conditions. This is a chance for cross country skier’s to get in some practice. If you don’t fancy skiing you could snow shoe or just come and relax.

Base: Dalseter Mountain Hotel- 3 hours from Oslo Gardermoen Airport. We recommend arriving latest early afternoon for a 2pm transfer as it is a 3 hour drive. You will arrive in time to settle in before the evening meal. We recommend returning on flights late afternoon on Friday January 23rd.

There are other options if you can’t make these times as there is a train to Lillehammer from the airport where a cab will pick you up but it is an extra cost. Some people add on a night or two, either before or after the holiday, in Oslo.

Some guests have travelled overland and this is an adventurous option. We can advise on travel and can recommend hotels  if you would like a stop over in Oslo.

Airport Transport is included from Oslo Gardermoen Airport to Dalseter return at the specific group transfer times.

Price: £to be confirmed  per person for the holiday all inclusive:

• en-suite solo occupancy room with a stunning view ( a bath available on request)
• Extensive buffet breakfasts,
• Lunches either packed or in the restaurant depending on the activity.
• All evening meals
• Local English speaking guiding plus night sky talks
• Equipment hire – snow shoes/ski’s/sleds as required
• There is also free use of the pool and sauna.
• Group Airport transfer by coach from Oslo Gardermoen Airport to Dalseter return at the specified times.

Not included are flights to Oslo and any drinks from the bar.

This was a hit holiday in 2026 – a chance to start your year in great company, in a home from home hotel and get out into wonderful wilderness returning to a warm,cosy base to swim, sauna, do yoga, have massage , play cards … generally chill and relax . What better way to start the year.

It is the breathtaking landscape of Espedalen in Norway to our special Hotel Dalseter run by Grethe and her family. This is a firm favourite of WalkingWomen and we return again and again. The addition to the outdoor activity is the night sky experience led by Grethe, with her passion for her homeland and especially the night sky in winter – we hope clear and bright and maybe even the northern lights.

The joy of Dalseter is that you can take off on the cross country trails right from the door – just beautiful.

ITINERARY

The itinerary for this week may change depending on the weather. It is planned for guests to have time to be outdoors and enjoy some pristine trails plus have time to swim, have saunas and just relax and be together as we start a new year.

For those who can cross country ski you will be able to take to the trails and ski with Wenche who some of you will know who leads the Peer Gynt plus our summer hiking. She is ready to share her love of cross country skiing and help you practice.

You can expect: 

Arrival Friday : Pick up at the airport to arrival in Dalseter for an evening Welcome meeting before dinner at around 7pm.

Saturday to Thursday 22nd Jan : 6 days of activities 

8-10am Breakfast

10am – 12 noon cross country skiing

13.30 – 14.30 Lunch

Afternoon – swim, sauna, relax or walk, cross country skiing

18.30 Evening Meal

Evenings – evening outdoors with a telescope plus slide show about the area and a talk from Grethe on the Dark Sky and what you can see from where you are – “when you wish upon a star it does matter where you are” !

Friday  – depart after breakfast around 10am. Book return flights from 16.00.
