SUMMARY

Dates: Sunday March 22nd to Friday March 27th – a special 5 night/6 day break almost Spring  break

Guide: Alvina

Walking Grade: Goat 2 – a variety of walks to get out into the fresh air and find your inner goat guided by Alvina. Walks will depend on the weather but you can expect to be outside everyday for 3 or 4 hours.

Base: Glaramara Hotel, Seatoller, Borrowdale, near Keswick. Our walking women love this place. Imagine cosy fires, great food and a lovely bar. This is a fantastic place for a relaxing  break – walks from the door and the warmth and great local hospitality to return to.

WalkingWomen has been coming to the Glaramara Hotel for 25 years and we continue to support this wonderful, traditional local hotel. The welcome is friendly and you are so well looked after.

Getting there: The nearest train station is Penrith 25 miles from the hotel – transport will be arranged to meet you if you can arrive by 15:00 at Penrith Train Station.

Good parking for those coming by car.

If you prefer to be independent StageCoach Stagecoach BUS local bus service is available (you would need to check winter times) and has an excellent app with all the timetables. From Penrith to Keswick Bus Station is approx 1 hour. It is the X5 bus route. From there there are buses every 30 minutes to Seatoller and the journey is 20 minutes. Ask the bus driver to drop you off at the end of the drive to Glaramara.

Arrival: get to the hotel for check in around 16:00 and settle in. Alvina, your guide, will then meet you at 18:00 in the bar area for your welcome.

Departures: after breakfast on Friday so between 10:00 and 11:00. Feel free to stay if you would like to explore by yourself.

DETAILS

Glaramara is an ideal base with commanding views of the Borrowdale Fells. Beautiful, varied walks on the doorstep and stunning views all around make this an ideal spot. The winter can bring wonderful light and we hope it appeals to join us to get out and do some bracing walks.

The hotel is so welcoming with relaxing spaces and cosy corners to enjoy a cuppa, a local beer or whatever tipple takes your fancy. The full board menu has tasty local food and plenty of it. An interesting feature is the display of local art adorning the walls – some for sale to support the local artists. En-suite bedrooms give comfort at the end of the day which are so enjoyed after a good days walking.

Most walks are accessible directly from the hotel making this a very relaxing break away from driving or lots of travel. A walk from the hotel is a swim spot for those lovers of outdoor dipping in very cold water!

In this break you will have the chance to really experience what this area has to offer and hopefully it will tempt you to return.
