DETAILS

Exploring the Amalfi Coast on foot is a truly rewarding experience, but it does require a good level of fitness. The region is renowned for its countless stone steps, many of them descending towards the sea, which can be challenging on the knees. Trails often resemble mountain paths, with rocky sections underfoot, and at times they narrow into dramatic cliffside passages offering breathtaking views. Along the way, there may also be short stretches on tarmac roads.

Participants should be comfortable with uneven ground, elevation changes, and sustained walking. Bringing walking poles if you need them or let us know and we will bring them for you.

ITINERARY

Itineraries can change depending on the weather.

You can expect to cover these hikes and explore this fabulous Amalfi area. A good level of fitness is required as you will be walking up and down with some steep stairs.

DAY 1 ARRIVAL – WE MEET IN NAPLES (we recommend a stopover here if you have the time )

Arrival in Naples for your group transfer approx 14.00. We drive to the Agriturismo Sant’Alfonso a journey of approx 1 hour. Here you will meet the guide for a briefing and the first dinner together.

DAY 2 RAVELLO AND AMALFI:  5 km 200 m ascent 550 m descent

Our first day begins with a scenic drive to Ravello, one of the most charming villages of the Amalfi Coast. Here you’ll have some free time to explore, and a visit to the enchanting Villa Cimbrone gardens is included. Famous for its balcony on infinity, its gardens are a masterpiece of elegance, with lush terraces, shaded pathways, and breathtaking panoramas over the coastline.

From Ravello we set off on our hike, descending into the Valle del Dragone through stony steps, before climbing up to the quiet hamlet of Pontone, where we will stop for lunch. Afterward, we take a rewarding detour to the Torre dello Ziro, a dramatic panoramic lookout from which both Amalfi and Atrani unfold below in spectacular views. The path leading here hugs the cliffside and, while not technically difficult, is rocky and uneven in places, more akin to a mountain trail.

We then descend towards Amalfi, following long flights of stone steps downhill, with a few uphill before arriving in the historic town. There will be time to enjoy Amalfi at leisure before we return to our welcoming agriturismo for the evening.

DAY 3 – PATH OF THE GODS 11 km 200 m ascent 700 m descent

This morning a short transfer brings us to the square of Bomerano, the starting point of the famous Sentiero degli Dei (“Path of the Gods”), the most iconic trail of the Amalfi Coast. The hike begins along the cliffs, following rocky paths that rise and fall with the contours of the land. Some stretches are narrow, but the trail is well-maintained and safe throughout, allowing you to walk with confidence while enjoying the breathtaking coastal scenery. The first part is more exposed to the sun, before the path leads into refreshing woodland.

We stop for lunch in Nocelle, a small village perched high above the sea, with spectacular views across the coastline. From here, the trail continues through stony steps and a short section on the tarmac road. This final part is almost entirely a staircase—around 1,500 stone steps winding down towards Positano.

Our hike concludes in the colorful seaside town of Positano, where you’ll have free time to relax and explore. Weather permitting, we return to Amalfi by boat, enjoying a different perspective of the dramatic coastline from the water.

DAY 4 AMALFI 10 km 300 m ascent 750 m descent

Today we set off directly on foot from our agriturismo. After a few flights of steps, both up and down, we join the trail leading into the dramatic Orrido di Pino, a deep gorge carved by theSchiato stream. The path narrows here and becomes more uneven as we make our way into the heart of the valley, before climbing back up towards a hillside village. From there, the trail continues along the coast, gradually descending with stretches of broken ground and scattered boulders underfoot, giving the hike a wilder, more rugged feel. As we approach the villages below, the path becomes paved, and we follow a mix of stairways and short road sections. The descent is steady and sustained—over 2,000 steps in total—making this day particularly demanding on the knees.

We pause for a picnic lunch at a panoramic spot overlooking Amalfi, then continue our descent into the historic town itself. The afternoon is free to explore Amalfi at leisure before returning to our agriturismo for the evening.

DAY 5 THE LEMON PATH BETWEEN MINORI AND MAIORI 5 km 270 m ascent 600 m descent

On our final day, we take a scenic 45-minute transfer to Ravello, from where we set out directly on our hike. Today’s route follows the famous Sentiero dei Limoni (“Lemon Path”), descending first towards Minori. Along the way we encounter numerous stone steps—mostly downhill, though with some uphill stretches—that make the walk both rewarding and a little more challenging.

In Minori, we pause to explore the village, with the option to stop at the renowned Sal De Riso pastry shop, home to one of Italy’s most celebrated pastry chefs. From here, the Lemon Path continues through fragrant lemon groves and traditional mule tracks until we reach Maiori, whereBwe stop for lunch and have time to relax.

In the afternoon, a boat ride takes us back along the coast to Amalfi, before our transfer to the agriturismo for a final evening together over dinner.

DAY 6 : DEPART FOR NAPLES AFTER BREAKFAST LEAVING AROUND 10.30AM. BOOK ONWARD TRAVEL AFTER 12 NOON.
