Stirling is the easiest place to get to with trains connecting from Glasgow or Perth from Edinburgh. We will arrange pick ups from Stirling or Perth  to Crieff and return.

DETAILS

Beautiful Perthshire is in the geographical heart of Scotland and  conveniently situated within easy distance of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness. It has dramatic mountains, glens and lochs, ancient castles and unspoilt nature with many options for walking, hiking and other outdoor pursuits.

It is also known as Big Tree Country and boasts some of Europe’s most impressive  woodlands with ancient Scots Pines and many of these are easily accessible on well-marked paths and trails.

Crieff was once a popular cattle market with drovers bringing their cattle from as far as the Outer Hebrides. It has become a hub for tourism with many different activities locally, hiking trails and some great cafes and restaurants. It also has the Caithness Glass Visitor centre and the Famous Grouse Whisky Distillery.

You guide will brief you each evening/morning about the days walk.

Day 1 Friday July 31st – arrival around 4pm for introductions and briefing with a short local walk round Crieff for orientation.

Welcome Evening Meal together in Crieff.

Hikes you will do during your week.  Sue,your guide, will discuss with you the evening before each day as they may vary due to weather.

Hike 1 Crieff to Comrie Croft 11.5 kms – mostly flat Ascent 182m, Descent 212m

We leave Crieff to do a beautiful woodland walk beside the river. We then pick up a disused railway track and stop off at Comrie Croft for a well deserved break. From here there is the option to return via a slightly different but similar length route along the River Earn or catch the local bus back to Crieff. We like to give options for those that want to stretch legs a little more and for those who are happy to return and relax back at the hotel or in Crieff. We will all join up later.

Hike  2 – Local Comrie/Crieff 18 kms Ascent 479m Descent 476m

More challenging walk in Crieff and Comrie area. Today we will continue our journey west and catch the local bus to Comrie Croft and walk through the woodlands, up to a monument for some spectacular view and then down the river Laggan viewing the Deil’s(Devil’s) Cauldron and on  towards the village of Comrie. From here there is an option to go for a river dip for those that want to test the Scottish waters. Return by bus to Crieff (20 mins.

Hike 3 Killin and the Falls of Dochart

Minibus to outskirts of Killin where we will walk some of the Glenogle Trail across the Kyber Pass of Scotland and over the 12 arch Viaduct and then head down to Killin to see the Falls of Dochart This is part of the Rob Roy Way. Look around Killin and stop for refreshments.

Hike 4 Comrie Croft Carn Chois Loop or slighlty longer Ben Chonzie Munro Loop
17.56 KMs Ascent 862m Descent 827m taking in the top of Carn Chois at 783m

This route does have a short section of an unpathed potentially boggy area linking the saddle to the path below but the views and scenery are worth it.

Hike 5 Ben Vrackie  9 kms Elevation 700 metres  4 -5 hours

Less than a hours drive away is Pitlochry where we will hike up to Ben Vrackie with spectacular views on a clear day.We will explore around Pitlochry before heading up to House of Bruar where there is an optional short 1 hour circular walk to the Falls of Bruar. The House of Bruar has some impressive shops and a great deli and cafe.

A day off from hiking mid week – to relax and perhaps have some fun on the Loch.
It is possible to incorporate both these activities into one day and we recommend them both.

Paddleboarding on Loch Earn. This is an hours session with instruction, all equipment, and wetsuit hire included.

Hot box and Sauna on Loch Tay .This is a very popular activity.
The hotbox experience is 2 hours and includes use of the Outdoor Hot pool, Sauna, Steam room, Jetty and the Loch Tay slide. There is a small private beach and relaxing outdoor terrace all surrounded by magnificent views.
Complementary robes, fresh towels, fruit infused water, cake and access to the HotBox are also included.

Day 8 Friday August 7th Departure after breakfast.

There will be an option for a short walk depending on travel times.
