An Austrian summer holiday August 2026

SUMMARY

Date: Saturday August 22nd to Saturday August 29th – 8 days with 7 nights and 6 full days hiking 

Guide: Angelika Kaufmann – our local Austrian Guide who lives and breathes this wonderful hiking region of Austria. She is a guide and coach so will also be able to give tips on mountain hiking. Ginny from WalkingWomen will also be joining the holiday.

Walking Grade: Goat 3 – this is a holiday to try out your Goat 3 legs. There will be varied walks with some lower level valley walking but also the opportunity to climb up to some incredible summits. It will all depend on the weather but you can be sure of discovering a wonderful peaceful hiking spot. 

We will offer some Goat 2 level walks during the week. There is a great outdoor swimming pool nearby for those swimming lovers. And a golf course.

Max elevation: we expect to hike not more than 1000 metres up but we will walk at higher elevations which we will reach by cable cars.

Terrain: well marked paths with a mixture of soft valley paths, mountain tracks and some more rocky paths. Walking poles are advised.

Max distance: walks will be very varied and less distance when we walk up. The maximum walking is no more than 15 miles/24 km in any day and this will be rare. You will be out from 10am to 17.00 most days with options to return earlier or miss days if you choose.

Base: Burgi’s adult only hotel run by Burgi herself Burgi’s

It is a family affair with her mother making delicious bread for breakfast. This is a holiday just for WalkingWomen and it us only us in the hotel. A perfect base for WalkingWomen with 12 rooms all with stunning views , a sauna to relax those muscles, a sun terrace to sit outside and a lovely dining room, lounge, bar for gathering. 

We are in the small village of Zug just outside Lech (perhaps known as the place where Princess Diana took William and Harry for ski holidays away from the crowds!)

The food is delicious and restaurants pride themselves on their local produce – we will eat at Burgi’s for our welcome and finale but other nights we will sample the different restaurants in the village with one night out in Lech.

There is a Michelin starred restaurant in the village of Zug for any foodies who want a tasting experience Rote Wand

Arrivals: Saturday August 22nd – we pick up between 15.00 and 16.00 St Anton Train station – just 30 minutes from Burgi’s.

Trains are excellent and there are connecting trains to Innsbruck, Zurich or Munich. We can help with travel arrangements. Information on Austrian Trains can be found on the national train app OBB

Departures: Saturday August 29th 11am return transfer from Burgi’s to St Anton train station. After a leisurely breakfast we depart 

Price: £2200 per person for this unique, exclusive experience. If you share a room the price is £1900 per person.

If you do like a larger room and larger bed you can upgrade your room for £150 per room more – we will adjust invoices after booking just let us know.

DETAILS

We hike in the region of Lech Zurs which is a fantastic spot for our WalkingWomen hikers with its expansive network of hiking trails. There is hiking in alpine valleys, into the uplands and up to mountain huts with stunning views as well as some summits that we would like to share with you.

This is not just a fabulous hiking spot but also an area great for swimmers(or dippers!) There is Lake Formarinsee with meadow slopes making it a lovely walk down to the shore. Or Lake Butzensee hidden in the high mountains between the two peaks , The Mohnenfluh and the Braunarlspitze – a beautiful place to relax and rest. We will visit Lake Spullersee at the end of the valley and on included in our hike to the Ravensburger Hütte – a lovely lunch spot. Plus a true place of tranquillity Lake Zursersee with a jetty stretching into the water – perhaps you will be tempted to jump in! So many Lakes and also the Lech River with places for paddling and some swim spots. The swimming opportunities don’t stop here as a walk from our hotel is the Forest Swimming Pool in the middle of the forest between Lech and Zug.

This holiday also offers the chance for Golfers to join as in June 2025 the Zug Golf Course opened. Just a walk from our hotel and offering a 9 hole course this is Austria’s highest golf course at 15oo metres above sea level. Breathe in the crystal-clear mountain air and end with a chilled glass of something.

There are also electric bikes to rent in the village for those wishing to explore further with the aid of a bike.
