Our latest exclusive, small group wine walking trip - to the Languedoc in the South of France. Is this the best wine - why not taste it and even make some yourself! Walks are fabulous amongst vineyards and rolling hills. This holiday would be perfect as a private group if you would like something special for friends - we could then take up to 20 guests sharing. Walking Grade: Goat 1 – this is a holiday for those who would like to do gentle walking whilst learning about the history and culture of this fascinating part of France. The Chateau is a great place to have space to relax and there will be time for swimming , taking strolls amongst the vineyards , tasting wine and local food and simply enjoying time away.

Base: Chateau Canet – a family owned private vineyard estate just outside Carcassonne in the South of France. Accommodation is in your own cottage with your own bathroom, kitchenette and private terrace – ideal for those wanting to get away for peace and tranquility.
This Estate is just right for a wine walk – tasting the locally made wine and walking the numerous trails in the local limestone hills with sweeping views across the Languedoc countryside. WalkingWomen has exclusive use of the Chateau for our very own special wine trip. There are walks on the estate, a heated swimming pool, tennis courts and a pétanque court.
Arrivals: Saturday September 18th 14.00 Carcassonne Airport or Carcassonne Train Station for Pick Up. there is a Saturday market in Carcassonne if you arrive earlier we recommend a visit.
We will pick you up from either the airport or the train station – 20 minutes transfer to the Chateau.
By train you can come via London to Paris Gare de Nord and on from Paris Gare de Lyon to Carcassone – there are different routes and we can advise.
If you would like to extend your stay in France or more widely in Europe we can help. You may fancy moving on to our Switzerland holiday for example.
Departures: Wednesday 23rd September – we return you to Carcassone for 12 noon.

- Own cottage – 6 cottages can be shared as there are two bedrooms (for those who want to bring a partner/friend/family)

This holiday is the latest in our wine walks – to walk and explore but also really immersing ourselves in the land and especially the production of wine. Come try it with us.
We are close to Carcassonne and a beautiful area of rolling hills and some mountains – perfect for walking in countryside and around historic cultural sites.
ITINERARY
The itinerary is to immerse yourself in life at a french wine estate and explore this beautiful area of France with all is history and culture. You can expect the experiences below but sometimes we may have to change the days due to weather or other reasons. We always say Trust Your Guide as they will make sure you experience the best their local area has to offer and get some great walking.
There are walks around the estate that you will be able to do outside of these … and we may visit the beach if the weather is nice..
Arrival: Saturday 14.00 for a pick up at Carcassone Airport or Train Station. 20 minutes to the Chateau.
Settle in to your home for 6 days.
16.00 – an orientation walk around the estate followed by welcome drinks and a BBQ
Sunday: Medieval Citadel of Minerve and Gorge de la Cesse – 8km/5 miles
10am: Depart after breakfast – 35 minute drive
Walk with lunch at a local restaurant
Visit to L’Oulibo Olive Co OP
Return for dinner at the Chateau Tasting.
Monday: Carcassonne – exploring this UNESCO Heritage Town
10am Departure for Carcassone
Walk – new town to old town to discover the UNESCO Heritage Medieval Castle of Carcassonne
Lunch in Carcassone
Return to Chateau for Cellar Tour and your own blending challenge – try your hand at wine making! Followed by evening meal at the Chateau.
Tuesday: Montolieu Countryside Loop – 5km/ 3 miles approx.
Beyond the village following a trail through fields and valleys – a relaxed walk.
Wednesday: Lagrasse – 8km/5 miles
Beautiful circular walk around the Orbieu Valley
Lunch at a local restaurant
Visit Abbaye de Lagrasse
Return to the Chateau for relaxation and finale evening meal.
Thursday: Departure after breakfast around 11am . Time for a morning swim, short walk and a last breakfast before we transfer you to Carcassonne
