WalkingWomen is offering a series of treks to walk on each day to experience some of the best long distance trails. The Cotswold Way is a quintessentially English experience with magnificent views and charming villages - not to be missed.

SUMMARY

Date: Wednesday 15th to Tuesday 21st September 2027

Base: We stay in 4 hotels as we journey along the beautiful Cotswold Way. All will give you the chance to experience these lovely Cotswold villages and towns and with lovely local food…

15th – The Noel Arms, Chipping Campden – the starting point of the Cotswold Way

16th and 17th – The White Hart, Winchcombe – a historic town close to Sudeley Castle

18th and 19th – The Queens Hotel, Cheltenham – Britain’s most complete Regency spa town

20th -The Stroud Hotel, Stroud – Cotswold vibrant, eco-friendly , spirited town

Walking Grade: Goat 3 – we will be walking half of the 102 mile/164km Cotswold Way – the north section of approx 48 miles/78 km. In 2028 we will be doing the south section to complete the trail.

Cotswolds

Expect 5-6 hours walking per day. The walking is hills not mountains with rolling hills and sweeping vistas. We grade this 3 goats because we are walking every day between 7.4 miles/12 km and 11.5 miles/18.5km – you need the fitness to walk for 6 consecutive days. We will be walking at a steady pace with stops to look around and have refreshments. Some days the walks are more of a Goat 2.

Highest Point: 330m/1083ft.

Terrain – Grassy paths, farm tracks, quiet lanes and beech woodlands.  Robust walking shoes or boots that you are comfortable in are best. We will have walking poles if you need them.

Max distance: 11.5 miles/18. 5 km

Arrivals: Wednesday 15th September 16.00 at Moreton in Marsh Train Station – we will meet you there 

Departures: Tuesday 21st September – we stay at the Stroud Hotel opposite Stroud train station – check out is 11am and you can leave at your leisure . You can leave bags and spend time in Stroud to depart when you like.

DETAILS

The Cotswold Way is a 102 -mile (164km) long distance trail that runs from Chipping Campden to the UNESCO city of Bath. We are walking it the WalkingWomen way – with an all women small group and in two parts so we can walk steadily and have time to immerse ourselves in this gorgeous area of England.  This year we hike the northern route and end at the mid way point in Painswick – known as the Queen of the Cotswolds.

The Cotswolds Way Cicerone Guide

ITINERARY

The itinerary is to give a guide for your trip – things may change due to weather or circumstances out of our control. We always say Trust our Guide as they will be making sure you get the best experience. Susie will brief you each day about the next day’s activities.

Arrivals: Arrive at Moreton in Marsh station before 16.00 in time for a 16.00 transfer to our hotel in Chipping Campden. Susie will meet you at Moreton in Marsh.

Day 2The Cotswold Way begins : Chipping Campden to Stanton 10.5 miles/16.8km.

From the starting post of the Cotswold Way in Chipping Campden,we will climb up to Dover’s Hill for a marvellous vista.Continuing we pass near the iconic Broadway Tower, and onwards to charming Stanton Village. Pick up from here and taken to the hotel in Winchcombe.

Day 3Stanton to Winchcombe 8 miles/12.8km

After breakfast we will transfer back to Stanton to resume our hike. Today we pass Stanway House,and the ruins of Hailes Abbey before reaching Winchcombe for our 2nd night at the White Hart Hotel .

Day 4 –  Winchcombe to Dowdeswell  11.5 miles/18.5kms

Setting off from the hotel,we will pass Belas Knapp Long Barrow before reaching our higher point of the hike at Cleeve Hill. On a clear day from here we have extensive views over Cheltenham and towards the River Severn. We continue to Dowdeswell and then take transport to Cheltenham for our 2 nights at Queens Hotel.

Day 5  – Dowdeswell to Birdlip  10.5miles/16.9 km.

After breakfast transport from Cheltenham back to resume our hike at Dowdeswell. We stay high on the escarpment and walk Leckhampton Hill with its interesting rock formations.We continue to the pretty village of Birdlip and take a transfer  to Cheltenham for your 2nd night

Day 6 – Birdlip to Painswick 7.5miles/12 km – today we reach the mid point of the Cotswolds Way.

After breakfast transport from Cheltenham to Birdlip to start our final walk to Painswick. Much of our walk is through typical Cotswold ancient beech woodlands, and we also pass Cooper’s Hill:the infamous annual cheese rolling event takes place here. Hiking into Painswick ,we can visit the famous churchyard yew trees,and wander in this delightful town known as ‘Queen of the Cotswolds’

Pick up at Painswick to travel to Stroud for your final night
