Base: Glaramara Hotel, Seatoller, Borrowdale, Lake District.

The nearest train station is Penrith and we recommend getting there for approx 14.00 on Sunday August 13th to share taxis.

Nearest Train station is Penrith 25 miles from the hotel – transport can be arranged via the hotel – a taxi for a group is approx £50 return. StageCoach https://www.stagecoachbus.com/ is the local bus service and has an excellent App with all the bus times. From Penrith to Keswick Bus Station is approx 1 hour. It is the X5 bus route. From there there are buses every 30 minutes to Seatoller and the journey is 20 minutes. Ask the bus driver to drop you off at the end of the drive to Glaramara.

Departure is after a morning walk on Friday. A packed lunch is included. Arrange travel for after 14.00.

Price: £955 per person per holiday all inclusive:

  • Ensuite bed, breakfast,dinner each night and packed lunches on all our walking days Monday, Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday and Friday for those who are staying for a morning walk.
  • 3 experienced guides providing a range of walks from goats 1 to 4
  • Local Transport required for walks – this will be on local buses where needed.

Not included:

  • Travel to the Glaramara Hotel
  • Drinks at the bar/restaurant

Last year was such a success that the much loved Glaramara Hotel will remain firmly in our WalkingWomen programme of holidays. In the heart of the Lake District with walks and swims from the door it is a real gem. Come and reconnect with old friends, and meet new, as we explore this beautiful part of England.

 

DETAILS

Glaramara Hotel is situated 7 miles south of Keswick in the picturesque hamlet of Seatoller in the Borrowdale Valley. Such impressive scenery with wonderful walks and swimming dip places a walk from the door. Or for those who just love to be in nature in the company of other women then it’s a peaceful place to sit and soak in the views!

It is possible to travel by public transport – we have tried it! Trains go from all over the country to Penrith then a regular bus service links to Keswick and on to Borrowdale. For bus information StageCoach has a good App helping you plan your journey. If flying from abroad Manchester or Newcastle are nearest airports or from any London airport you can travel from London Euston Station to Penrith.Or as one intrepid traveller did this year you can fly into London Heathrow and hire a car!

If you do drive there is free parking at the hotel.

Glaramara is ideally located for a wide variety of walks from the famous peaks of Scafell Pike, Great Gable, Haystacks and Glaramara itself to plenty of lowland walks within Borrowdale. This is the reason for ‘a little bit of everything’ grading. Our guides will run a varied programme each day so you can pick what feels right on the day! They know the area and you can be sure the programme will be inspiring and leave you feeling you have discovered this gorgeous place.

There are clear paths up to visit Tarns  and to walk across Maiden Moor. There are the famous Borrowdale oak woods to be explored on the banks of the River Derwent. There are lots of National Trust sites and gardens to visit so variety really will be the spice !

Expect to have a choice of 2 walks each day to suit your level. We may also do some walks together with options to return earlier or stop more as we have guides who can accompany different groups at different stages.
There are also opportunities to swim with rivers and lakes all around.

Our hotel is the ideal spot to spend time. Your receive such a warm welcome and staff are always on hand to help you. There are plenty of spaces to sit and relax either on your own or as a group.You are surrounded by local artists work as the owners support their local community. Food is a high standard and there is a good choice. There is a small bar serving local beers and a range of drinks for those who like to relax with their favourite tipple.

Itinerary

Our walking programme is subject to change depending on the weather and at the discretion of our local guides.

There will be a full programme of varied walks to suit different goat levels. Our guides will brief you on what is available the evening before so you can choose to suit your needs.

Your walking day will usually start by 10am after a leisurely breakfast. You will be out all day and return 4 or 5pm. It does depend which walk you have chosen.

There is the opportunity to do more lakeside and swimming walks , the lower hills or to take on the higher mountains of Scafell Pike. We will have a variety on offer .
