How about discovering the best of Hadrians Wall together as Goat 3 and 2ers. Do join us and stay in the very Centre of Britain! For any Goat 1’s you can still join as there is plenty to do.
SUMMARY
Date: Friday 9th to Friday 16th July 2027 – 7 nights/8 days
Guide: Jo Bird, Lorraine Roberts – 2 guides depending on numbers. Covering Goat 3 and 2.
If we do have interest from Goat 1 walkers Bren Whisker may join to do a more cultural programme.
Walking Grade: Goat 2 and 3 as we walk along Hadrians Wall – the National Trail.
Goat 2 walks averaging 5-6 miles, hilly with a max 230m ascent. Goat 3 walks averaging 10-11 miles , max ascent 600m. PLEASE LET US KNOW YOUR GOAT LEVEL ON BOOKING SO WE CAN PLAN.
Base : The Centre of Britain Hotel in Haltwhistle – family run by Grethe,David and Mia – Haltwhistle’s most historic building. We have taken all 12 rooms.All bedrooms are individually designed and providing comfort at the end of your walking day. This is a perfect base for our hike.
We have also booked rooms at Belford House (the old Post Office ) so we can accommodate more women.
Getting there: There is a train station in Haltwhistle so you can travel by train via Carlisle or direct from Newcastle. There is also a car park at the hotel for car drivers.
Nearest airport is Newcastle but it is easier to fly to Manchester and get the TransPennine Express Train Service that operates direct from Manchester Airport to Carlisle and on to Haltwhistle.

DETAILS
We start in Haltwhistle which has been named the very centre of Britain. A small market town in Northumberland and the perfect spot to base ourselves for exploring Hadrian’s Wall. There is a railway station making it very accessible.
We are at the great northern frontier of the Roman Empire! Walking besides the Wall with its milecastles, turrets and forts draws visitors from around the world, it is a World Heritage Site after all! And, it stretches across wild and beautiful moorland scenery, perfect for fine walking.
This holiday is about getting together in the very heart of Britain – the centre of it all. Well it will be for this week!
To discover the National Hadrians Wall Trail – the best bits – is our aim. There will be different options you can choose from when the guides brief you each evening.
There will also be a visit to the roman fort of Vindolanda which will be for all levels.
If you fancy a day off there are lovely towns around , Hexham, Carlisle make a lovely visit. There is also the River Tyne Trail which offer lovely walks from Haltwhstle,
This is a fantastic opportunity to see the best of this countryside and the very best of Hadrian’s Wall.
ITINERARY
We expect to discover the best bits oh Hadrian’s Wall weather permitting. Your guides will brief you each evening about the walks so you can decide as you go.
Friday July 9th Arrival in Haltwhistle for check in from 3pm. There will be a briefing with your guides between 5pm and 6pm before dinner together at the hotel. If time there will be an orientation walk of the town.
The walks .. dependent on weather but we intend to cover the best bits in 4 days with 1 rest day and 1 surprise walk depending on the appetite of the group!
