DETAILS

Skye is one of the most popular of the Scottish Islands and we had to add it to the Scottish Island holidays we offer. We now have Arran, Bute , Orkney , Shetlands and now Skye.

Over seven days, Skye’s wild landscapes will have you rethinking your bucket list. The Quiraing looks like it was sculpted by an alien art collective, while the Cuillin Mountains serve up incredible views. Expect  dolphins, castles, and amazing trails that dodge the crowds so you can find peace .

Evenings will find you enjoying the friendly Scottish hospitality – the Dunvegan is known for its food. Enjoy local meals, sea views, and perhaps some music!  With every step, you’ll realise this isn’t just Scotland—it’s nature pulling out all the stops. The Skye’s calling you.

ITINERARY

Your itinerary is a guide as weather might mean things have to change. We always say trust your guide as they will make sure you get the best holiday. Each evening your guide will discuss the following days hiking and may adapt things due to weather, circumstances and depending on the group. You can be sure of a full Scottish adventure!

Day 1: Saturday  Inverness to Skye

Your guide will pick you up from Inverness city centre (outside the train station) at midday. Then, you’ll be transported to Skye (around 4 hours including stops) – you will see sights en route. Arrive to check in and settle in to your hotel, which will be the base for the entire trip. Welcome Dinner together.

Anita will offer a variety of hikes and cultural experiences – the order will depend on the weather. Each evening you will have a briefing together to discuss. You can be sure of 6 great experiences for your 6 days on Skye.

Quiraing

Quiraing will be the perfect introduction to Skye, as we tour around one of the world’s most unique landscapes formed by Europe’s largest landslip. This is a short, but dramatic walk. We will finish this day with a scenic drive.

Hiking: 4.4 m/ 7km,
Elevation gain: +440 m / +1250 ft

Rubha Hunish: the dramatic Northern Tip of Skye
This curcuit  takes you to the most northerly tip of the Trotternish peninsula on Skye. The views from the  cliff top are outstanding allowing you look out to sea for miles. On a clear day you can see most of the Outer Isles of Lewis, Harris and Uist. The old lookout tower is now a shelter / ‘ bothy’ where whales can sometimes be spotted. On our way back to the hotel, we stop to explore the old castle, visit the museum of island life and perhaps a chance to feed the highland coos!

Hiking: 4.5 m/7km
Elevation gain: +200 m / +650ft

Other days – we will decide on length of hikes once you have warmed up!

Boreraig Suisnish Clearance Villages – a fascinating journey through industrial history and the tragic eradication of island communities. We walk to dramatic waterfalls and the remote beaches of Loch Eisort, whee the Sea Eagle might be spotted. We can see industrial remains amongst wild flowers and orchids. We see the haunting atmosphere os Boreraig which takes us back to these unique, remote communities,

We return via a lovely cafe on our way back to the hotel.

The Old Man of Storr – the moderate way! This is one of the most popular places to visit on the island as it is stunning landscape – a 55 metre-high pinnacle rock which is all that remains of a 2800 million year old volcanic plug. We will walk the Storr Trail to give you a sense of the area without doing a ridge!

Hiking: 3.5 m/ 5.7km
Elevation gain: 267m/876ft

The Maclouds Maidens and Dunvegan Castle – southern Skye A day to visit a different part of the island and see the stunning sea stacks – the mother and her two daughters. We will walk through a birch wood and visit Loch Bracadale

Loch Coruisk – as long as the sea is calm! We will  start with a scenic boat ride from Elgol to one of Scotland’s most remote lochs, Loch Coruisk. We return on the boat to Elgol and return to our hotel.

The Fairy Glen –  up the magical ‘Fairy Glen’  – this charming wooded walk winds it’s way around a castle, crop circles, and small grassy hillocks, with a glorious view back to Uig Bay. It was a favourite last year.

Day 7 : 10am after breakfast we begin our  journey back to Inverness
