The summer is here and we are outdoors as much as possible
Occasionally we come across these pesky midges and we have been asked what we might recommend.
We found Dr Alison Blackwell and the small company Smidge who have developed a repellent that works on all biting insects. It has been developed in Scotland by biting – midge experts and is scientifically proven to provide instant,sweat-proof protection for up to 8 hours.

On a recent trip to the Isle of Bute, Scotland we tried it
It was gorgeous weather and we were walking the West Island Way – a path all round the island of Bute – the closest island to the mainland and just a short train ride form Glasgow to a connecting ferry. It is 35 miles along the coast, through forests, across moorlands and beaches. It is a fabulous hike and always good to be protected just in case these pesky little insects are around.
Whats lovely about Smidge is it is like a moisturiser
and it has a very pleasant smell but to midges or mosquitoes you will taste like planet putrid! It can even put off ticks that sometimes appear.
The active ingredient in Smidge is Picaridin, also known as Saltidin which has been molecularly designed to effectively block the antennal receptors of biting insects. It throws them off your scent.
